Welcome to the Pre-K 3 Grade!

Listed below are some key objectives from the Diocesan Curriculum Guide for this grade level.

 

Religion

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á  that God gives us the gift of self, people and the universe

á  that prayer is talking and singing praises to God

 

Social/Emotional Development

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á  to feel secure in his/her environment

á  to attend to an activity for 10-15 minutes

á  that he/she is part of a group and is expected to complete tasks and responsibilities

á  his/her age, name and birth date

á  to share, take turns and ask permission

 

Motor Development

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á  to demonstrate good posture and body mechanics—standing, sitting, falling safely

á  to practice self-help skills—zipping, buttoning, lacing, buckling, snapping

á  to cut, glue, and paste and practice proper grip of pencil, crayon, paintbrush, etc.

á  to formulate patterns with objects left to right and in a two-sequence pattern

 

Language Development

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á  to focus on the speaker without interrupting

á  to follow simple directions and commands and to respond to questions

á  to discriminate differences/similarities in words, colors and shapes

á  to develop speaking skills

á      to trace over shapes and use right-to-left progression in completing activities

 

Cognitive Development

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á  to identify the parts of the body and their functions

á  to sort by color, shape, use, size, and other attributes

á  to identify basic shapes, colors and sizes

á  to count orally 1 to 10 by rote

 

Aesthetic/Fine Arts Development

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á  to be exposed to a wide variety of art and music types

á  to demonstrate acceptable audience behavior

á  to be provided opportunities for creative drama through the re-telling of stories and poems
