Listed below are some key objectives from the Diocesan Curriculum Guide for this grade level.

 

Religion

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á      to identify God as creator of the universe

á      that we are created in GodÕs image to know, love, and serve Him.

á      that prayer is talking and singing praises to God as well as listening to Him

á      to identify the humanity of Jesus and to retell important accounts of JesusÕ life

 

Language Arts

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á      to listen in an effort to ask or answer questions as well as to listen without interrupting

á      to relate 2-4 events clearly and in their proper sequence

á      to trace, copy, draw, dictate and print in written form

á      to follow instructions in sequence and to repeat a pattern or series of sounds, words, or numbers

á      to produce rhyming words

á      to acquire/understand a basic sight word vocabulary

á      to identify a bookÕs simple story structure

á      to demonstrate proper formation of manuscript letters

á      to write messages that move left to right and top to bottom on the page

 

Math

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á      to count forward to at least 20 as well as forward and backward to at least 10

á      to pair numbers to determine odd or even

á      to place an object in a designated ordinal position

á      to solve addition and subtraction number sentences with sum/differences at least through 10

á      to solve real-life problems involving addition and subtraction

á      to order objects according to given attributes: height, length, capacity, size, and weight

á      to identify hour and half-hour on digital and analog clocks

á      to interpret a calendar

 

Science

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á      to measure, compare, and record plant growth from seeds to bulbs

á      to identify and list the functions of the five senses

á      to identify major parts of the body

á      to chart and record weather conditions

 

Social Studies

Our goal for your child is for him/her to learn:

á      to locate land and water areas on a map

á      to identify and use terms of location and direction such as ÒonÓ, ÒbetweenÓ, ÒbelowÓ, ÒleftÓ, ÒrightÓ, ÒnearÓ, ÒfarÓ.

á      to read simple pictographs, bar graphs, charts, and tables

á      to identify good leaders, past and present

á      to recite address, phone number, and birthday

á  to recite the Pledge of Allegiance
